IDC Architects

GSMC is a joint venture between the Chinese government and private Taiwan investors, and represents the first 300mm semiconductor facility constructed in China. The master plan we created for the 64-acre site includes four office buildings, four fabrication modules, a central utility building, and related infrastructure. The first phase of construction includes a six-story office and 280,000 SF of Class 100 cleanroom.

Feng shui and Chinese design principals inspired our design and planning for this campus. The high-tech facility conveys a modern Asian appearance with large projecting eaves, the use of local materials, and the inclusion of traditional colors, details, and symbols. A curved granite wall at the office entrance is a feng shui earth element guiding visitors into the building. We used granite at the facility's base and had it engraved with water patterns from the Han Dynasty. Selected glazed areas are silk-screened with the broken ice patterns, referring to lattice work traditionally in front of window openings. We selected a micro-rib silver panel because of its yin-yang quality under different light conditions.
