Axcelis Technologies, Inc. is a leading manufacturer of semiconductor process equipment. We were charged with designing a corporate headquarters whose readily identifiable and dynamic building form would be recognizable worldwide.

Planned as an expansion to an existing manufacturing and support facility, the program we designed included a demonstration cleanroom and training facility, dining room, auditorium, and corporate offices. To achieve the client's goals, substantial changes to existing building entrances, relationships, and site-wide circulation were required. The resulting design solution expresses the diverse programming functions through the interplay of three volumes around a stone-clad curved wall element. The curved wall marks both the new site and building's entry and defines the corporate street. Serving as the building lobby and demonstration cleanroom viewing corridor, the corporate street is the unifying interior element and establishes a primary circulation spine bridging the new and existing buildings. Distinctive custom designed signage and graphics components further enhance the three story sunlight filled corporate street while providing way-finding. A restrained material palette inclusive of domestic limestone, flat champagne metallic metal panels, and a high-performance curtain wall system is employed to complement the existing facilities.
